Buffer Tanks to drive efficiency
Buffer tanks, heat stores and accumulator tanks are all names for containers that
hold large volumes of water and are part of heating systems. The role of the buffer
tank is to prevent the boiler cycling and operating inefficiently when the user calls
for hot water.
Boilers are at their most efficient when they are working flat out to raise the temperature of a body of water. If they are turned on every time a hot tap is run then they will be more costly to run in terms of fuel and boiler efficiency.
